If you found this page,
hopefully it means that you would like to join thousands of
Christians from all over the Tampa Bay area in showing
the love of Jesus Christ. A lot of prayer and
planning has gone into developing a ministry that
compliments the ongoing efforts of the local church by
making a difference in our community. Our prayer is that as you read through the
different opportunities listed on this site the Lord
will work in your heart and you will find a ministry that
compliments the gifts the Lord has given you.
Here is how it works.
Reaching Tampa has joined
forces with Christian ministries and churches throughout the Tampa
Bay area as well as started some ministries of our own. To help
with communication all of the ministries are
located on our website
http://www.reachingtampa.org/. We have divided them
up into 5 different categories.

Basic Needs |
Educational |
Healthcare |
Relational
|
Service |
Every ministry listed on
the website has the same goal and that is to show the
love of Christ and build relationships with people in
the community. When browsing through the
categories you will see a variety of ministries and
opportunities. We have contacted these different
organizations and groups and identified needs that they
have.
For example the Tampa
Seafarers Center is a ministry located at the Port of
Tampa. Their goal is to offer a change of scenery to
the seafarers and provide a warm relaxing
environment where they can call loved ones, browse the
internet, or just hang out. The center is in need of
volunteers on Wednesday Afternoon/Evening as well as
Friday Afternoon/Evening.

Description: |
The Port of Tampa is Florida's largest port and handles
approximately 50 millions tons of cargo per
year. Ships come from all over the world and
when they reach our port they are here anywhere
from a couple of hours to a couple of months.
The crew is always looking for a change of
scenery and the Tampa Seafarers Center provides
a warm relaxing environment where they can call
loved ones, browse the internet, or just hang
out.
Groups adopting this ministry will build relationships with the
seafarers that come in to the center as well as
drive them to local stores for needed
essentials. |

This need is posted on the
Reaching Tampa website (shown above) and ideally a Bible Fellowship
class, Bible study local church or a group of friends would commit
to “adopt” the Tampa Seafarers Center. Once a group has
committed to help, all they have to do is email the
contact person at the bottom of the listing and that individual
will take care of all the details. They will go over the
times and places as well as review
any special requirements associated with the selected ministry.
The Port of Tampa might
not be the place for you, but you may love working with
the homeless. Working with the homeless may not be the
area where you fit in, but volunteering at children’s
homes may be right up your alley.
It is exciting to think of
the impact that thousands of Christians standing
together as the body of Christ could make in our
community. Our prayer is that Christians
from all over this city will join us so together we can
reach Tampa for Him.
Hope to see you soon!
